The Seat Pleasant Volunteer Fire Company is to deliver Fire Suppression, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to the citizens of Prince George’s County and the Town of Seat Pleasant three hundred sixty five days a year, 24 hours a day.
Fire Suppression
Our most basic function. This service consists of the application of water onto the seat of a fire from the inside of the building. During the fighting of the fire, we also ventilate the structure. This serves to let the heat escape, as well as giving any people left inside the building a better to living for us to rescue them.
Search and Rescue
Another traditional function. This consists of the searching of a building involved in fire, finding any victims trapped inside and then getting them out of the building via ladders, doors or other exit points. This can be the most dangerous part of the job, as many times the firefighters preforming the search are doing so without the protection of a hoseline.
Overhaul
When a fire is over, this hot, heavy and tiring job must be preformed in order to prevent any chance of the fire starting again. When a fireman looks like he is breaking walls and door frames, he is most likely searching for any unseen fire trapped in these spaces.
Emergency Medical Service
Our most common type of call. About 80% of our calls involve EMS. We deliver this service on both of our Engines, and on our Basic Life Support Ambulance. All of our Firemen are trained to at least Maryland Emergency Medical Technician Level of care. Our Paramedic service is handled by the PGFD AEMS division with Medic units staffed by Maryland Paramedics.
Service Calls
SPVFC also responds to many calls for service, such as children locked in vehicles and in houses.
